Obituary for Carol Beth Deegan
Carol Beth Woolsey Deegan was a Christmas gift to her parents, GP and Minnie Woolsey, in Big Timber. She grew up on the East Boulder, attended country school, home school and high school in Big Timber. She then attended business school, worked for lawyers, was a secretary at Sweet Grass County High School, drove school bus and delivered rural mail before buying a ranch in 1972 on the East Boulder from her father. She married Ed Deegan in 1956. During their 61 years together, they traveled with oil companies throughout much of the US, camped, vacationed, and ranched. Beth loved her Herefords, sheep and lambs. Working beside Ed calving, haying, feeding, spraying, and fencing, she also gardened and fed her birds. In retirement she enjoyed living on the ranch, painting, doing crossword puzzles, playing her piano and guitar, birdwatching and reading. She especially enjoyed feeding the birds during the winter and eagerly awaited the Sandhill cranes, geese, ducks and other birds to return to “Beth’s Pond” each spring. Beth and her green thumb tended to her garden and flower beds. She passed at age 85 after a brief illness.
Beth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 61 years, sisters; Rebecca Munsell and Joyce Hanson. She is survived by her brother, Jim Woolsey, and will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Cremation was her wish and a service will be held at a later date. We will miss you, “Auntie.”
