Obituary for Agnes Mary Viets
Agnes Mary (Dimmitt) Viets, 93, passed away January 13, 2016 at Pioneer Medical Center in Big Timber after suffering a stroke. Agnes was born November 26, 1922 to Emma and Vernon Dimmitt of Ottumwa, Iowa. She moved to Montana at an early age and lived in the Bitterroot Valley for a few years before her family moved to Rapelje. She graduated from Rapelje High School in 1941. Her first husband, John Edwards also graduated from Rapelje High School two years prior to her and they were married a week later, May 25, 1941. To this union a daughter (Janice) was born. John continued to work on the family farm at Rapelje and Agnes worked at the Rapelje Mercantile. John later joined the Army Air Corps and died serving his country. In 1947 Agnes married Johnny Viets. To this union, a son, Johnny and daughter, Pamela were born. They lived at Johnny's ranch near Gibson. Agnes raised a big garden, lots of flowers and three children. She canned fruit, vegetables, fish and beef and was an excellent cook. She loved animals. She raised chickens and bum lambs and also milked cows. Agnes was a very good seamstress. She sewed most of the family's clothes and crocheted blankets, vests, and doilies. They moved to Big Timber in 1971. Agnes worked as a bookkeeper for Rehmer Electric, worked at the Lazy J Motel, and later worked at the Sweet Grass County Assessor's office. Agnes was an active member of the Big Timber Lutheran Church and the Esther Circle. She loved to go with her friends to have pie and coffee. She was very dedicated to her family and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren adored her and always kept in touch with "Granny". Her latest quest was for a yellow geranium and some of her grandchildren were helping her search. She is survived by her two daughters, Janice (Joe) Beley of Big Timber, and Pamela (Terry) Keel of Columbus. Grandchildren DeArlene Beley of Big Timber, Sandi (Wade) LaVoy of Big Timber, Burl (Vicki) Beley of Circle, Holly (Adam) Protain of Mulino, Oregon and Jeremy Ames of Bozeman. Great grandchildren Corey Beley of Billings, Wyatt LaVoy of Kunsan Air Force Base, South Korea; Walker and Weston LaVoy of Big Timber, Tori Beley of St. George, Utah; Raelynn, and Chance Beley of Circle, Logan and Evan Protain of Mulino, Oregon and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, infant sister, husband John Edwards, husband Johnny Viets, son Johnny Leroy Viets and son-in-law Bernard "Stub" Ames.
