Obituary for Betty Heiken
Betty Heiken, 91, of Big Timber passed away Friday September 4, 2020 at the Pioneer Medical Center in Big Timber.
Betty was born September 29, 1928 to Oscar and Helen (Elgen) Braaten. She spent her life in the Grey Cliff and Big Timber communities, graduating from SGHS in 1946. She worked as a nurses’ aide at the Sweet Grass Hospital for many years, following she worked at the Gambles Store until retirement.
Betty loved caring for others and devoted time to serving with hospice and with church functions. She also donated blood regularly.
In 1952 Betty married Hermon Smith. Three children were born to them. They lived and farmed near Grey Cliff.
She married Glenn Johnson in 1973, gaining a large step-family. They resided in Big Timber. They enjoyed travelling and she cared for a lovely yard. Glenn passed away in 1997.
In 2003, Betty married Hobert Heiken and they too enjoyed traveling and regularly attended Big Timber Lutheran Church together.
Betty loved meeting up with family and friends for coffee or lunch, with the emphasis on visiting.
After Betty was admitted to the Pioneer Medical Center due to advancing Alzheimer’s, Hobert was there regularly to visit and to help with her meals.
She passed away peacefully on September 4, 2020.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Kenneth, Duane and Lorene (Lolly), son Kendall and daughter LouAnn Sorg.
She is survived by sons; Tom (Donna) and Kenneth (Teri), son-in-law Todd Sorg, grandchildren; Sadie, Kimberly (Cheyenne), Charlotte, Kendall, Anna, and four great-granddaughters; Eliona, Kailey, Aleah and Zoey and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
