Obituary for Brenna Lu Lavold Sutherland
Brenna Lu (Lavold) Sutherland was born on a wintery day January 8, 1976 in Billings, Montana, the first child of Rick and Luanne (Beeler) Lavold. Brenna and her brother Jeremy spent their early childhood in Lockwood where Brenna attended Lockwood Elementary school. The family eventually moved to Park City, Montana. Brenna enjoyed FHA, band, Show Choir, and volleyball while in school. She graduated from Park City Schools in 1994.
Brenna went to Trinity Bible College in Ellensdale, North Dakota. She played college volleyball and coached high school volleyball. She graduated Summa Cum Laude in Elementary Education with a minor in Coaching. After graduation, she returned to Montana and taught at Columbus, Joliet, and later at Elysian in Billings.
She loved to travel. Through volleyball, touring with friends, and mission trips she has been to Russia, Mexico, Peru, China, Israel, Singapore, Hawaii, Kenya, Greece, Switzerland and of course - Norway. Some people gather mementos during their life’s journey, Brenna gathered many wonderful friends.
God placed a desire for evangelism in Brenna’s heart. She left Montana to attend Rhema Bible College in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She wore many hats while at Rhema - student, Instructor, International Students Activity Director, and Admissions Office Manager.
In 2011, Brenna married her love, Bret Sutherland, a fellow graduate of Rhema. Their first child, Jathan, was born in Oklahoma. Shortly after Jathan’s birth Brenna's young family moved back to Montana. Three years later they welcomed their daughter Abigael.
Brenna’s greatest desire was to serve the Lord and to be a stay-at-home mom. She made a wonderful home. Many family celebrations were gathered around their table. The family joke was that Brenna had some difficulty in following recipes, despite of the fact that her first job was as a baker at Golden Corral.
She is survived by her husband Bret, children Jathan and Abigael, parents Rick and Luanne Lavold, brother Jeremy (Erin) and their children, Grandmothers Wanda Lavold and Ann Beeler, aunts, uncles, as well many cousins and friends.
Brenna is rejoicing in heaven. Her ashes will be interred 3pm Tuesday at Mountain View Cemetery in Big Timber, Montana.
Memorials may be made for Jathan and Abbie’s education fund or the charity of your choice.
