Obituary for Catherine Jane Thompson
Catherine Jane Thompson passed away on Feb. 9, 2017 at age 82. She was born on Oct. 28, 1934 in Artas, SD to John and Emma (Fischer) Pudwill.
She lived in Artas until the passing of her mother in 1941, after which, she and her older siblings moved around the Midwest with their father. Upon the passing of her father in 1944 she was adopted by David and Margret (Smith) Chatelaine.
She helped in her parent's restaurant during the summers and traveled extensively as a child and young adult all total she visited all the lower 48 and Cuba. She attended Principia School in St. Louis, MO graduating in 1952. She then attended Business College in Chicago, IL.
In 1955 she married Kenneth Thompson and celebrated 61 years together living and raising their family in Big Timber. Catherine contributed her skills and labor at various businesses and agencies in the community to include the Citizens Bank, the Sweet Grass Co. Extension office, Big Timber Pioneer, and Big Timber Post Office before retiring in 1996.
Catherine was a dedicated and nurturing mother, grandmother and great-grandmother her influence and love for her family is a treasure. Her patience and warmth were reflected in her crocheted afghans and doll clothes and other numerous crafts including rosemaling, stained glass, knitting, and sewing. She mostly enjoyed crocheting making many afghans and clothes for her many Barbie dolls. She enjoyed socializing with friends and neighbors and was a member of Willitgro Garden Club where she could help bring color and God’s creation to the community and to her home.
She is survived by her son David (Debbie) Thompson and kids Mariah, Andrew, Lauren and Madeline of Helena, MT, daughters Kay (Duane) Myrstol of Big Timber and kids Catherine Myrstol (Shane Heal) kids Destiny Myrstol and Ethan Heal of Lewistown, MT, Derek (Amanda) Myrstol, Nathan Myrstol, and Kaycee Myrstol all of Big Timber, Lori Thompson and kids Austin Thompson and Ally Reynolds all of Big Timber. Brothers Lorn (Anna) Pudwill of Big Timber, Don (Dolores) Pudwill of Largo, FL, sister Shirley (Denis) Twohig of Columbia Falls, MT and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her husband Kenneth, parents John and Emma Pudwill, David and Margret Chatelaine, sister Ardella Kightlinger, sisters-in-law Solvieg Johnston and Annette Thompson, brothers-in-law Teddy, Allen, and Amos.
