Obituary for Catherine Jean Bainter
Catherine J. (Harper) Bainter, 89, a lifetime resident of Sweet Grass County passed away September 11, 2016 at her home in Greycliff, Montana.
Catherine was the first of 10 children born to Edward V. Harper and Mabel C. (Crum) Harper on February 12, 1927 near the base of Porcupine Butte on Fish Creek/Melville Montana.
Catherine attended school in Big Timber through the fourth grade then Glasston School through the 8th grade and graduated from high school in Big Timber.
Catherine and Raymond W. Bainter met as school children in Glasston and were married on February 7, 1945. Ray and Catherine farmed and ranched in Sweet Grass County for 49 years. Catherine enjoyed her farming and ranching life, gardening and working with livestock. In her later years, Catherine was a docent at the Crazy Mountain Museum in Big Timber.
Catherine is survived by her seven children; Charles (Linda) Bainter of Greycliff, Clyde (Irene) Bainter of Livingston, Nina (Jerry) Weimer of Livingston, Gary Bainter of Plevna, Robert ‘Bob’ Bainter of Big Timber, William ‘Bill’ Bainter of Billings, and Dawna (John) Rookstool of Chandler, AZ. 21 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Catherine is also survived by six siblings Helen (Ivan) Andrick of Billings, John Robert ‘Bob’ Harper of Big Timber, Virginia ‘Ginny’ (Darrell) Rathkamp of Wyola, Mary Underwood of Auburn, WA, Margaret (Carl) Solheim of Laurel and Kathleen (Ronald) Thomas of Hysham.
Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Raymond, sister Betty Kalen, brother Edward Charles ‘Chuck’ Harper and Richard ‘Dick’ Harper.
