Dale Van Heiken (62), loving husband and father, passed away peacefully at his home in Big Timber, MT, on August 29th, 2023. Born on November 6th, 1960 to Maxine (Haugrud) Heiken and Hobert Heiken, he was the eldest of three children.
Dale served his country for fourteen years, first in the United States Army and then as a member of the United States Air Force, where he was stationed in Germany around the time of reunification. Following his discharge from the military, he developed a great love of the outdoors. He could often be found camping, fishing in the Boulder River, or painting the landscapes of Yellowstone, where he could listen to a baseball game in peace or sit with his thoughts.
An intellectually curious man, Dale loved history, science fiction, and political dramas. He enjoyed working through logical puzzles and discussing big ideas with his loved ones. After settling down in Big Timber, he became a beloved member of his community.
Dale was preceded in death by his mother, Maxine. He is survived by his wife, Roxanna "Roxy" Heiken, his three children (Sarah, Amy and Zachary Heiken), as well as two granddaughters, his father, Hobert, and his siblings, Pamela and Brian. He was excitedly awaiting the birth of his third grandchild.
A celebration of life will be held at the American Legion in Big Timber at 2 PM on September 16th, 2023.
