Obituary for Dan Eugene Glasgow
Dan Eugene Glasgow passed away on March 10, 2022. He was 69 years old.

Dan was born in Madelia, MN on June 7, 1952. He grew up in St. James, MN, where he attended catholic grade school and St.J high school, graduating in 1970.

Dan spent many summers working on his family’s farm outside of St. James. In June 1974, he married Bonnie Miest and together they had three children. After Autumn was born, he earned an Associate’s degree from Jackson AVTI. He worked part-time for the Watonwan County SCS, and two years for Wilkin County/Breckenridge MN, where Cole was born.
He always wanted to be a “Montana Man” and was finally able to move there, working in Shelby, MT (Toole County) for two years, where Holly was born. The family finally settled in Big Timber (Sweet Grass County) in 1981. Here, his love of the mountains and wildlife blossomed while he worked and played throughout the area. Dan worked for the USDA-NRCS for 30 years, surveying land, planting trees, designing wildlife ponds, and helped build sustainable irrigation systems for local landowners and ranchers.

Dan’s hobbies included training and breeding his black lab hunting dogs, cultivating a small garden in his backyard, coaching his daughters’ youth softball teams, and hunting deer and pheasants with his son. Dan was a captivating storyteller, and often regaled his immediate and extended family and friends with annual Christmas cards and in-person tales. He was also a skilled artist, and created numerous beautiful pieces treasured by his family.

Dan is preceded in death by his mother Joyce (Sizer) Glasgow, father Donald Glasgow, and his brother Wade Glasgow. Dan is survived by his children, Autumn Glasgow-Myrstol (Steven), Cole Glasgow, and Holly Whaley (Josh), as well as his former wife Bonnie Glasgow, and sister Jane Maranell. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren (Meredith, Caden, Mason, Natalie, and Lincoln; as well as Mitchell, Morgan, and Jasmine), numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
Dan’s greatest joy was celebrating with family and friends. Therefore, the family plans to hold two celebrations in his honor. The first will be a ‘Happy Hour’ open house and celebration of life held in Big Timber, MT on Saturday, March 26, from 4 to 6 p.m. at The Level (Masonic Building) - 101 W. Second Avenue - for those who wish to join us to tell stories and honor his life. The second will be planned for a later date in St. James, MN.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Dan’s name to the Sweet Grass Community Foundation https://sweetgrasscommunityfoundation.org, so he can give back to the community he called home for over 40 years. Or, please donate to a charity of your choice.
