Obituary for Don Stuart Mauland Tetlie
Don Stuart Mauland Tetlie passed away November 18, 2016 at Beartooth Manor in Columbus where had lived since August of this year.
He was born in Big Timber, June 6, 1931 to Harold Benjamin and Anna Mauland Tetlie.
He attended the Wild Rose School and graduated from Sweet Grass County High School in 1949. Following graduation he went to florist school in Minnesota, a skill and talent he used throughout his life working for a time as a florist in Livingston. His love of flowers can still be seen in the poppies and flowers in his garden at the ranch and in his beautiful gifts of center pieces that would precede him at family holiday dinners.
Don lived his whole life, a good life on the family ranch north of Big Timber until he moved to town around 2008.
In 1957 Don began working at the ASCS, a job he had until his retirement in 1991 after 34 1/2 years of service.
Family and friends have many wonderful memories of picnics by the river, reunions and gatherings hosted by Don at the ranch, complete with beautifully set tables and his famous scalloped potatoes.
He loved his pets, was a wonderful cook and enjoyed traveling, his Norwegian Heritage and visiting with friends from all over. His travels took him to Norway and South Korea. He also visited the Furstenberg’s at many Marine Corps Air stations around the country.
Don was a long time member of the Lions Club, Toastmasters, Sons of Norway, and an avid supporter of the Crazy Mountain Museum, swaying many people to support the museum through their gifts.
Don was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother Harold Mauland Tetlie, sister Sonia Arlene Tetlie, infant twins Ann Carol and David Benjamin Tetlie, first cousin Larry Furstenberg and longtime friend Paul Birkeland.
He is survived by four first cousins, Svend Mauland, Wanda Mauland Lavold, Noreda Mauland Harris and Jadewega Mauland Horn and an extended family of Mauland’s, Furstenberg’s and Tetlie’s.
