Obituary for Donald K. Shay
Donald K. Shay died peacefully at the Riverstone Hospice House in Billings on August 21, 2016 at the age of 93.
Don was born west of Laurel, Montana on November 12, 1922 on the family farm to Ethel and Harrison Shay.
Don is survived by children Tim (Mary Beth) Shay, Gail (Tom Wilson), Susan (Greg Olson), Debby (Steve Sorg), Terry (Rose) Shay, and Vicki (Stuart) Smith and family,
His brother Dick (Joe) Shay and sister-in-law Thelma Shay. He is survived by grandchildren: Alyssa (Rob) Strauch and Stephanie (Johnny) Burke; Bryan (Jennifer) Severin
and Eric (Luisana) Severin; Betsy Olson and Kelli (Brian) Pelc; Andy (Lael) Sorg and Nick (ReAnna) Sorg; and Heather Shay, Jessica (Bryan) Vanberg, Alex (Jesse) Shay, and Sophia Shay.
There are also 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife Eileen Sheets Shay and wife Betty Paronto Shay, brothers Neal and Wallace, sister Virginia
Warren, and daughter-in-law Melodee Shay.
After high school graduation Don, enlisted in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in the 17th Airborne Division. When the war ended, Don was married to Eileen and moved to
Red Lodge and then Big Timber for 17 years as a farmer. The family then moved to Gillette, WY for 2 years. Don and the family then moved to the Yellowstone Boys Ranch and worked there for 19 years. Don and Betty moved to Laurel where he worked as a Bailiff for Yellowstone County and was also an employee for the Laurel School District.
Don was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and friend to many.
A memorial service will be held at the Laurel United Methodist Church, 307 W. 4th St., Laurel, MT at 11am on Saturday the 27th of August 2016. Inurnment will follow at Laurel City Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials to Riverstone Hospice House, 123 S 27th St., Billings, MT 59101 or the American Legion Post #19, P.O. Box 51, Big Timber, MT 59011.
