Obituary for Edith 'Edie' Lomeland
Edith Lomeland, 95, passed away Friday February 27, 2015, at the Pioneer Medical Center in Big Timber. Edith, "Edie" Elizabeth Braughton, was born January 3, 1920 in Big Timber, the youngest child in a family of eight children, Ada May, Katie, Susie, Virgil, Alma, Ruby, Lloyd, and Edith, born to Andrew and Ellen Sarah Braughton of Big Timber, Montana. Edie attended a country school on the Old Boulder Road where she graduated from the eighth grade. She then attended the Sweet Grass County High School for three years. On September 2, 1939, Edie married Palmer Lomeland of Big Timber. They had one son, David Andrew. Edie and Palmer lived in the Big Timber area, working on ranches. They later purchased a place on the Old Boulder Road where they raised some cattle, gardened, and even had a small bee business for a time. Around 1965 they moved to Jefferson City, Montana, where Palmer worked on road construction and in a sawmill. Edie was able to take the nurse aide class at St. Peter's Community Hospital in Helena, Montana. She graduated in the first nurse aide class from there on February 2, 1967. She continued to work at the hospital for several years. Later on, Palmer and Edith moved back to Big Timber, and lived at their home at 514 Old Boulder Road. Edie was able to work at the Community Hospital in Big Timber for a number of years. She enjoyed the nursing work very much. Palmer passed away in June of 1986. Edie continued to live on their country place and was happy to help members of her family and others in any way she could. Eventually she moved into an apartment at the Big Timber Village Apartments. Edie and Palmer were members of the Big Timber Seventh-day Adventist Church. She loved her church and was actively involved as long as she was able. In her later years, Edie was able to work at the Boulder Meadows Assisted Living Center. This was a work that she thoroughly enjoyed and she was able to help there for nine years. In February of 2014, she moved into an apartment at the assisted living facility. A few months later she fell and broke her hip which began a stay in the Pioneer Medical Center, where she was living at the time of her death. Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Palmer and all of her siblings. She is survived by her son, David, and his wife, Vivian, her grandson, Jon, and his wife, Vanessa, four great grandchildren, Daniel, Christine, David, and Faith and many nieces, nephews and their families. Edie lived a full and busy life. She looked forward to the day when, she said, "I want to see Jesus come again, and I want to hear His sweet voice call my name". Edie will be missed by her family and all of her friends.
