Obituary for Ethel Mae Kjarmo
Ethel Mae Kjarmo passed away peacefully at the age of 99 at the Pioneer Medical Center in Big Timber on Wednesday February 18, 2015. Mae was the third of six children born to James and Cora Preston of Springdale, Montana on August 27, 1915. Mae married Carl O. Kjarmo in June, 1934. Mae and Carl spent their lives in or around Big Timber and their farm outside of Greycliff, they had five children. Mae started working away from her home at an early age and continued with that work ethic throughout her life. It was the only way she knew how to live. Mae was a charter member of the Kill Kare Klub, she loved to dance, play pinochle and cook. She was well known for her angel food cakes, but everything she cooked was fantastic. Mae loved her time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her great-great -grandchildren. Mae was preceded in death by her husband Carl, son Gilbert, her parents, and four siblings; Jeanette Frost, Bill Preston, Harry Preston and June Harris. She is survived by her younger brother Gene Preston of Richland, WA, four children; Olga (Dennis) Elgen of Culbertson, Carl 'Jim' Kjarmo of Big Timber, Harold (Darlene) Kjarmo of Richland, WA and Shirley (Durell) Johnson of Big Timber, 12 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren. Mae lived her life demonstrating loving and forgiving attributes. Everyone who met her admired those qualities. Mae's death leaves a tremendous hole for her family and for all who knew her and she will be missed by all.
