Obituary for Forrest Gordon Gibby
Forrest Gordon Gibby, 93, passed away at the Pioneer Medical Center on Feb. 6, 2020.
He was born in Springdale on Aug. 5, 1926, to Frankie and Weaver Gibby. Forrest was one of eight children – Jerry, Violet, Retha, June, Dean, Norma, and Dale. He lived around this area most of his life.
Forrest was drafted into the Army on his 18th birthday in 1944 and took his training in California. He was then shipped to the Philippines where he was wounded and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was shipped home to recover from his wounds. He first was in Seattle and then shipped to Texas to recover and then was transferred to Boston to finish his tour as an M.P.
Forrest returned home in the fall of 1946. He worked on different ranches. He also worked at Montana Power, the railroad, and Downer’s Lumber Co. sawing trees.
On September 17, 1950, he married the love of his life, Selma Juanita Mosness. They’ve been married over 69 years and had three wonderful children – Brit, Rick and Vic.
He loved doing things with the boys. They went fishing, hunting, and worked together. They traveled around stacking hay for five years.
Forrest and Selma lived in a house he built in Springdale for 8 years. At Christmas of 1963, the family moved to the old Mosness homestead where they lived until Forrest and Selma moved into Big Timber in 2016.
He loved it when his sons got married and he finally got his girls – Brit and Jeanine, Rick and Dianne, and Victor and Mardi. Then along came his grandchildren, who were perfect – Dawn (Greg), Jeff (Afia), Season (Ian), Dylan (Shomie), Tasha, and Kathy. Finally, the great grandchildren, who could do no wrong – Sam, Ethan, Isabel, Austin, Rhian, Mat, Gabby, Mason, and Cooper. Forrest loved those kids and couldn’t wait for them to come and see him. Forrest and Selma also called Kitty Buster, Jay Deen Federer, and their families their adopted kids and grandkids.
Forrest was preceded in death by his son Victor, his parents Frankie and Weaver, and four siblings – Jerry, Violet, Retha, and Norma.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will held 1:00 P.M. Saturday February 15 at the American Legion Post #19 in Big Timber. Inurnment with military honors will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
