Obituary for GEORGE A. COON, JR.
George Adam Coon, Jr. passed away surrounded by family on September 9th, 2014. George, the only son of George M. and Dorothy (McBride) Coon, was born on June 28, 1946, in Rosebud, Montana. He grew up on the family ranch where they raised cattle and hay. After attending Rosebud High School, he joined the U.S. Army in 1964, where he was trained as a tank operator and sharpshooter. He was stationed in Germany until 1967. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Montana, where he began work in road construction. He went on to become a heavy equipment operator and truck driver, working at the coal mines in Colstrip. He was also a 40 year member of the Union Local 400. George married Delphine Roos, in February 1974. In 1976, they began operation of Desert Claim Ranch and George Coon Trucking in Terry, Montana, where they raised cattle and pigs. More importantly, this is where they raised their children, Dustie, Lance, and Mistie. George loved travelling, hunting, and spending time with his family. He is survived by his daughter, Dustie Coon and her sons, Chance and Garrett Coon of Bridger, daughter and son-in-law, Mistie and Derek Fagone and their daughters, Jorjana and Ciara, of Big Timber, son, Lance Coon and his sons, Nevada, of Kalispell, and Chad (Dani) Dolan and his children, of Billings. He is also survived by his eight sisters, Vivian Miller, Georgia (Bob) Quinlan, Joyce King, Dottie Johnstone, Mary Ellen King, Claudia Burris, Margie (Chuck) Medlin, and Betty (Gary) King, Sr. and numerous nieces and nephews.
