Geoff Walton, born on June 26, 1951 in Minneapolis, MN, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2024. Geoff was a beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather, and rancher whose life was defined by his deep love for his family and dedication to agriculture.
Geoff was the sibling of nine brothers and sisters and grew up in Lockwood. He attended Lockwood Grade School and Billings Central Catholic High School. After school, Geoff worked construction with his brothers in eastern Montana, but his true passion lay in agriculture. As a teenager, he found joy in working at the Two Rivers Ranch (currently Whistle Creek Ranch) south of Big Timber during the summer months. It was there that he fell in love with the life and rhythms of ranching.
In 1984, Geoff married the love of his life, his wife Sarah. Together they embarked on a lifelong journey in Big Timber, raising sheep and cattle as they started out. Their family grew with the birth of their first son, Charlie, followed by their second son, Sam, In 1997, Geoff and Sarah moved to their current home, where Geoff managed Whistle Creek Ranch until the time of his death. It was a place inseparable from his soul.
Geoff's love for his family was matched only by his fondness for his grandchildren, his loyal dog Gina, and his cherished friends. He was known for his appreciation of a cold draft of Angry Hank's Head Trauma IPA and a well-prepared meal.
Geoff leaves behind his wife, Sarah, his sons Charlie (Caitlin) and Sam (Julie), his grandchildren Callen, Emerson, June, and one on the way, as well as his many siblings and extended family members. His legacy of hard work, passion for life, and deep affection for those he loved will be remembered by all who knew him.
He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
