Obituary for James 'Jim' Aloysius Devenny, Jr.
On the evening of June 12, 2020, James (Jim) Aloysius Devenny, Jr. passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Jim (or “Dev” as his parents and siblings called him) was the first born child of James Devenny, Sr. and Madeline Devenny. Born in 1944 on the east coast, Jim longed for a different kind of life and headed west as a young man. He lived in various places in Colorado, Montana and Washington before finally settling into his beloved home on the bank of the Yellowstone River in Big Timber, Montana in 1981.

Jim worked as a USDA food inspector but was more defined by his commitment to the US Army National Guard which he joined in 1965 and remained in (with only a few breaks in service) until 2006. He was a passionate person- loving family, friends, community and country. We will remember him best for his wine making, the beautiful flowers and vegetables he grew, his crazy dance-moves, his political debate, the many hours he volunteered for his community, his dedication to lap swimming, his golden retriever buddies, his humorous one-liners, but most of all, for his devotion to his family!

Surviving Jim is his wife and soulmate Lola and their children: Jennifer (Matthew) Fisher, TaraShawn (Jeffrey) Stephens, Bryan (Kristen) Devenny, and Megan (Jeremy Francom) Devenny and eight precious grandchildren. Also surviving him is his brother Christopher, and sisters Barbara and Madeline and their families. Our Lord God has already welcomed home his mother and father. Jim has gone to join them.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be planned in the future.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sweet Grass Community Foundation. Jim believed strongly in our local community.
