Jim Allee passed away peacefully in his sleep at 7:30 am on Thursday morning on the 25th of
May in Big Timber, Montana.
Jim was born in California, Missouri to G.L. “Jack” and Mable Hurt Allee. Growing up with 5
siblings, Jim graduated from high school in Otterville, MO.
Jim rode out west from Missouri on horseback and made his way as a trapper. It was in
Wyoming where he met his future wife and grew roots. He raised three children with his wife,
Mary Zoe Allee on a cattle ranch in Wyoming.
Jim later opened Allee Saddlery, and ran a successful saddle and tack shop in Greycliff, MT for
over 30 years with his loving partner, Leila. He became a renowned saddle maker in the
community and in the western film industry.
At the age of 87, Jim lived an accomplished life as a rancher, stockman, gunsmith, and saddle
maker. He lived off the land and on his own terms and inspired others to do the same. Jim was
one-of-a-kind and will be greatly missed by many.
Jim is survived by his sisters; Beverly "Jo" Stone and Sue Hirst, brother; Charles Allee, son;
Rusty Allee and daughter; Echo Stock, six grandchildren; Mark Allee, Stacy Allee Smoot,
Brandon Allee, Deann Keplar, Dustin Zimmerschied, and Sarah Accord, 8 great grandchildren,
and one great-great grandchild. Jim is proceeded in death by his son; Jack Allee, mother;
Mable Hurt Allee, father; Jack Allee, and his siblings; Lee Allee and Fern Hutchison.
A celebration of life will be held by the family at the Pelican Fishing Access on the Yellowstone
River at 10am on July 15th, 2023.
