Obituary for Janice Irene Engle
Janice Irene Engle, 82, passed away in her home on the family ranch south of McLeod on Tuesday, April 16th of a massive heart attack.
Janice was born June 6, 1936 in Billings, MT to Clark and Helen Engle. In 1949, the family moved to the Boulder Valley on the ranch that Janice enjoyed and loved.
After graduating high school, Janice attended business school in Billings and upon completion, moved to Jacksonville, Florida to join her older sister Edith, and live with her Uncle Tommie and Aunt Mary.
It was at this time that her Uncle Tommie, a Navy Officer, was able to help Janice gain employment as a civilian employee at the Cecil Field Navy Base. Janice would then proudly work as a bookkeeping clerk, being involved with the Blue Angels team. She worked for the Navy her entire 40-year career.
Janice always considered Big Timber and the ranch up the Boulder Valley home. She came home to visit almost every summer, and in 2005, she and her sister Edith, moved back to the family ranch, where they built their home and Janice would live out and enjoy the remainder of her days.
Janice enjoyed working on the ranch, and as a child, spent many hours and miles on horseback with her dad and brothers. Janice enjoyed daily outdoor chores and anything to do that involved the animals, from the cats and dogs to the chickens, sheep, cattle and horses.
Upon retirement, Janice remained active in the daily ranch happenings, and always loved to lend a helping hand. When it came time to working cattle, all involved enjoyed Janice’s baked goods and meals provided. With Janice at home, the cookie jar was always full!
Janice renewed many acquaintances upon her return and gained many new friends. Janice loved to shop and travel with her sister Edith. They traveled to South America, Europe, Caribbean, Australia, New Zealand, and throughout the US. and a special cruise with their parents to Alaska.
Janice also enjoyed music and attended many concerts and music festivals. Janice was proceeded in death by her parents, Clark and Helen Engle, sister Edith, brothers Clair and Roger, and nephew Kevin Engle. Janice is survived by her brother Keith Engle and his wife Marie, sisters in law Marilyn Engle, Mary Jo Engle, and many caring nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at 1 pm, Friday April 26th, at the Big Timber Evangelical Church. Interment of some of her remains will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, and part of her remains will go home to the ranch to be spread privately at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Janice’s name may be made to Montana on a Mission, PO Box 696, Big Timber, MT 59011 or the Pioneer Medical Center, PO Box 1228, Big Timber, MT 59011.
