Obituary for Jerry Mahlum
Jerry Mahlum, 64, of Whitehall, Montana, was born July 4, 1953 in Big Timber, Montana to Leonard and Adeline Mahlum. Jerry passed away on July 9, 2017 surrounded by friends and family to an acute illness. He attended school in Big Timber and ultimately graduated in 1972 from Helena Senior High in Helena, Montana. He married Debbie Kessner on October 6, 1973. He worked for the Mahlum and Sons Water Well Drilling Company. In 1976, he started his 40-year law enforcement career at Lewis and Clark Sheriff´s Department. In 1978 he joined the Montana Highway Patrol and retired in 1999. Jerry worked as a part time deputy for Sweet Grass County Sheriffs Department from 1999 – 2005. He worked as Under Sheriff for Dawson County from May 2005 – October 2005. In October of 2005 he began working as Under Sheriff in Sweet Grass County Sheriff´s Department until he retired in February 2016.
Jerry was preceded in death by his Father Leonard, Brother Steve and his grandparents.
Jerry is survived by his wife Debbie, his son Shad (Mel) grandchildren Luca and Yara. His daughter Teah (Noel) Mason. Mother Adeline, brother Tim (Debbie) niece Ashlee and nephew Kellen. Niece Stephanie (Geoff) Higgins and nephew Mathew (Becca) Mahlum.
