Obituary for John Clyde Farthing, Jr.
We lost our loving uncle John Farthing into the loving arms of the Lord on February 2, 2016 at the Pioneer Medical Center. John was born September 23, 1923 on the family ranch in the Gibson - Shawmut area to John Clyde Farthing and Etta (Gentry) Farthing. He was the youngest of six children. He lost his hearing from whooping cough and the German measles at the same time as a youngster. He graduated from the deaf school in Boulder and then graduated from Barber School, he had a practice in Columbus, a short time in Livingston, then a number of years in Reed Point at the Reed Point Hotel which was owned by his parents. After his dad died they moved to Big Timber and he opened his own shop across from the old welding shop. He always wore a tie and a white or colored shirt and always had a smile and a hand shake for his customers. John entered the Pioneer Medical Center in 1995. He loved living there and to tease the nurses on staff there. He continued wearing his shirts, ties and red sweaters. He always wore his favorite aftershave too. John was preceded in death by his parents, brother Don Farthing and sisters Josephine Ray, Leah Weamer, Georgia Jones and Nettie Nevin. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews including Sharon Mosness, Marilyn Blumhagen, Robert Nevin and their families. We would like to thank the Pioneer Medical Center for the wonderful care they gave him for the 21 years he was there. Cremation has taken place and services will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday February 13, 2016 at the Big Timber Lutheran Church. Memorials in John's name may be made to the Big Timber Lutheran Church, Box 278, Big Timber, MT 59011 or to a charity of one's choice.
