Obituary for Joseph L. 'Joe' Stensaas
Joseph Leslie Stensaas, 76, took his last breath this side of heaven October 6, 2016 with his family surrounding him.

Joe was born in Torrington, WY November 9, 1939 to Leonard and Charlotte Stensaas. The family moved to Rock Springs, WY where he attended grade school and high school.

Joe married Terry Hathaway on December 29,1965 in Riverton, WY. They have three sons, Richard, Michael and Joshua. Joe completed college at the University of Wyoming receiving a BA in Art Education and a Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture.

Joe was a man of many interests, talents and an adventuresome spirit. This led to the family living in a variety of locations eventually settling in Big Timber, MT. He was creative with a remarkable talent as an artist. He will be remembered as an entertaining storyteller with a uncanny memory for details. Topping his character traits was having a servant heart; Joe would always drop everything to help others. He was devoted to his family and friends, so they rank him as a great husband, dad, grandpa, brother, and friend.

Some of the most fulfilling seasons of Joe’s life were his times spent in mission work. He and his family served several years in Youth With A Mission in Hawaii, in Hong Kong working with Vietnam refugees, and in the Pacific islands on the Mercy Ship, Anastasis. He was also privileged to go to the Philippines and up the Amazon on short mission trips. If Joe could choose what to be remembered by, it would probably be by the words of his favorite song, “I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning back.”

Joe is survived by his wife, Terry of 50 years, his sons and their families: Richard & Sheila, children: Shenae & Tyrell; Michael & Susan, children: Jennie & Tessa, grandchildren: Parker & Quinn; Joshua & Adrianne, children: Luke & Emmaya; his sister Debra & husband Scott, daughter: Courtney.
