Obituary for Richard E. 'Rich' Martin
Richard E. Martin, 79, of Big Timber, passed away February 22, 2014. Richard "Rich" Martin was born the son of John and Margaret Martin of South St. Paul, Minnesota and was one of 11 children. He attended school both in South St. Paul and Big Timber while living with his brother Cliff and his wife Florence Martin. Rich served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1974. His main classification was medic and he was known as "Doc Martin." He trained and became one of the Underwater Demolition Team (UDT) members, and later was selected as one of the 38 Plank owners of the U.S. Navy Seal Team Two. He received numerous awards, including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Rich loved the ocean, boating and diving. He also loved the great state of Montana, horses, hunting, fishing and visiting with friends. Rich was an active member of the Boulder Baptist Church and a valued member of the community. He was a devoted father and loved his family. Rich is survived by his wife Nancy Martin, his five daughters; Marlo Williams, Jimmie Linn Mobley, Robin Sabota, Jackie Roberts, Debrah Richards, his five step-children; Edward Seitz, Deborah Seitz, Richard Seitz, Laura Seitz and Michael Seitz. Rich is also survived by his brother Larry Martin, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Richard Martin was a great man and will be deeply missed by family and friends. Services for Richard Martin will be held at the Boulder Valley Baptist Church Saturday March 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Immediately following there will be a reception at the American Legion. In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. Donations may be made by check, phone order or online.
