Obituary for Robert Earl 'Bob' Linse
Robert Earl ‘Bob’ Linse, 98 of Big Timber passed away Monday September 26, 2016 at the Boulder Meadows Assisted Living Facility.

Bob was born on May 4, 1918 to Lee and Luella Linse in Seattle, Washington.
In 1923 the family moved to Yakima, Washington and in 1927 Bob and his mother moved to Saint Paul, Minnesota to live with his grandparents.

During his school years in Saint Paul he became interested in the Boy Scouts of America eventually earning the rank of Eagle Scout.

In 1936 Bob entered the University of Minnesota where he graduated in March of 1941 with a Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering. While attending the university Bob was a member of the All American Rifle Team. He earned many awards for his expert marksmanship.

In his last years at the University Bob met Barbara Jensen and they were married on April 4th 1941. They moved that same day to Caldwell, New Jersey. Bob was employed by Curtis Propeller a division of American Power Jet. Bob’s interest in rocket engines was awakened. The group in the next building was headed by Dr. Robert Goddard.

Bob’s interest in scouting continued and he became the scoutmaster of the scouts in Parsippany. During their time in New Jersey Bob and Barbara were blessed by the birth of two daughters Barbara Kay and Sharon Lee.

In 1950 Bob had a job offer at Boeing in Seattle, Washington so the family moved to Seattle. On the trip west they passed through Big Timber not realizing that they would retire and return thirty years later. The job at Boeing not being as promised, the family oved on to Los Aneles, California. Bob went to work for Rocketdyne, a division of North American Aviation, which became Rockwell International. Bob advanced rapidly within Rocketdyne ultimately becoming chief project engineer for the F - rocket engine. This engine powered the first stage of the Apollo man on the moon program. Rockwell corporate offices called Bob in1968 to become an executive. After nine years at the corporate offices Bob retired in 1977.

In 1980 Bob and Barbara moved to Big Timber. Here they enjoyed many happy years of retirement which included fishing the Boulder River behind their home and trips to Minnesota to visit family. Bob was always active in the Lutheran Church’s that they attended and held a deep belief in our savior Jesus Christ. Bob and Barbara joined Big Timber Lutheran soon after arriving in town. Bob was very active in the adult bible class leading that class for over twenty years. He spent many dedicated hours preparing for each class.

In November 2002 Bob’s wife of 61 years passed away. Bob continued to live in the family home until July 2011 when he fell and was hospitalized. He then moved into the Boulder Meadows Assisted Living Facility.

He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara and grandson Erick Forsberg of Spokane, WA. Survivors include his two daughters Barbara (Len) Woehler of El Dorado Hills, CA and Sharon (Floyd) Forsberg of Big Timber. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Should friends desire memorial’s in Bob’s name may be made to the Big Timber Lutheran Church, Crazy Mountain Museum or to a charity of one’s choice.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Pioneer Medical Center and the Assisted Living for the care and friendship for Bob during this time of his life.
