Obituary for Robert Jay Martinz
Robert Jay Martinz, 63, passed away March 3, 2016 at Billings Health and Rehabilitation Community.
Robert was born February 11, 1953 in Big Timber, to Walt and Mildred Martinz. He attended school in Big Timber.
He entered the Navy in 1971. Although he served in many locations, including Guam and Belize, Robert’s service time with his brother David had always remained as his most cherished. The two brothers spent a lot of time serving on Whidbey Island N.A.S., Oak Harbor, Washington. Robert has expressed that while living on Whidbey Island he was living his best life. Robert served his country 22 1/2 yrs, including Active and Reserve duty. He remained a Seabee for life, always quick to identify with a fellow Seabee. During his recent stay in the hospital, Robert visited his brother David who was also in the hospital. Although it was a brief visit, Robert felt as though he got to be “stationed” with his brother one more time.
Robert married Veronica Jennings in 1981, they later divorced.
Some of Robert’s work included Sears in Billings, Parrent’s Auto, Stenberg Construction, Oie Motors, and the Timber Bar.
Robert was very keen on old vehicles. His true passion was cooking. He enjoyed cooking and sharing the food with people. He has been known to serve many a good feed in the earlier years. Robert enjoyed the camaraderie of cooking with friends. He recently stated one of his favorite things to do was to watch people eat and enjoy their food.
Robert mentioned that he would open a door to a place and look the place over to decide whether or not he wanted to enter. It seems this last door Robert opened was a welcoming sight to him as he has gone through to stay.
It is with great love that we say good bye to our dear brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.
Robert is survived by brother David of Big Timber, sisters; Mary Ann (Jim) Parrent of Big Timber, and Judy (Greg) Hampson of Sheridan, WY, brothers; James of Sheridan, WY, (Tammy of Afton, WY), Charlie (Sara) of Great Bend, KS, Mike (Janet) of Big Timber, and Duane (Nancy) of Custer, SD, Nieces and nephews include Waide, Brenda, Scottie, Tania, Bill, Jackie, Ben, Joe, Andrea, Jason, Austin, Sterling, Hanna, Sage and new born Ethan, Cheyenne, ShaeLee, Craig, Angie, Cody, Blake, Chris, Elizabeth, Dani, Brittney, Calie and many cousins. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, brother John and sister Diane.
See you later Roberto.
