Obituary for Rosalie 'Rosie' Todd
Rosalie 'Rosie' Marie (Myers) Todd, 73, of Big Timber, passed away peacefully near Big Timber Wednesday evening, February 25, 2015. Rosie was born January 27, 1942 to Edwin and Susan (Deitzel) Myers, the youngest of seven children at the family farm along the east bank of the Stillwater River south of Columbus. Being nine years younger than her nearest sister, she developed an early, insatiable love for riding horses. She would dutifully exchange doll playing time, or other "normal", little girl activities with neighbor girls, for the opportunity to ride their horse, since she had none at home. Eventually, an older sister gave her a colt as a Christmas present. Rosalie attended the Lower White Bird Country School nearly halfway between Columbus and Absarokee during her elementary school years, then, attended and graduated from Columbus H. S. (1960). In high school, she was a cheerleader and active in her class' plays and fundraising events. Shortly after graduation, she married Sonny Todd in Columbus, accompanied him as he continued working on the Todd family ranch SW of Reed Point, and was blessed with three beautiful children. In 1967, a major lifestyle change occurred; Rosalie singlehandedly moved her three young children to Katherine, Australia, approximately 170 miles from the nearest town, where Sonny managed a cattle station in the "bush country" of the Australian Outback. One Christmas, Arlene Pile of Big Timber sent her a picture of the Crazy Mountains which, of course, induced a major case of "homesickness". After several years in Australia they returned to their beloved Montana. Their quarter horses were renowned throughout the Western U. S. and their sales brought buyers from significant distances. Rosie showcased her horses by riding in numerous regional parades, supporting their riders throughout the famous Montana Centennial Cattle Drive, and riding "shotgun", with Sonny, for the late President Reagan's stagecoach in the Billings Metra during his second term campaign trip to Montana. Rosie had a vibrant engaging personality, and who could forget her signature, infectious laugh. Any guy knew he was in trouble when Rosie latched onto his forearm, shook it, and said, "Oh, you bugger, you". Everyone absolutely loved Rosie. Rosalie is survived by her sister, Gladys (Gerry) Hoffman of Billings, daughter-in-law, Donna, and her two sons, Logan and Dillon, of Big Timber, daughter Nikki (Art) Perry and her two children, Beau (Brittany) Blaylock of Columbus and Ashley Blaylock of Big Timber, son Justin (Vonda) and their two children, Collin of Bozeman and Britt of Big Timber, son Rick (Linda of Broadview) of Red Lodge and their two sons, Colter and Garrett (Jaclyn) of Sidney, and innumerable, beloved nieces, nephews, and close friends. Rosalie was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Dorothy (Don) Trees and Donna (Ben) Veach, brothers Jim (Joanne), Charles (Diane), Walter, and son, Stetson.
