Obituary for Sandra Rae Halvorson
Sandra Rae Strobel Halvorson was born September 6th, 1970 in Livingston, MT to Harvey Cort and Barbara Catherine Purcell Strobel. Sandra’s folks brought her home to Upper Deer Creek where she spent her youth growing up with her older siblings, brother Jim and sister Julie.
Sandra attended both Grey Cliff and Big Timber Grade Schools and graduated from Sweet Grass County High School in 1988. After high school she attended Trend Business College in Portland Oregon in 1989 and lived with her Aunt Helen Croskrey’s family while going to school. After finishing school, Sandra returned to Big Timber and started work at Bob Faw Chevy/Olds in January of 1990. Sandra worked for Bob and Judy Faw until the dealership sold to Tonya House; owner of Beartooth Chevy and Beartooth Ford in 2008. Sandra went to work for Tonya at that time. Sandra always took pride in her work and was commuting to Beartooth Ford in Columbus with the help of her dad Cort, up until the end.
Sandra met her life love Darren Halvorson in 1988 before heading off to school in Portland. Upon returning to Big Timber, the couple reconnected and were married on June 21, 1991. Sandra and Darren created a beautiful home and family on Upper Deer Creek. Their sons, Reese James, came along on February 17, 1992 and Devin Harvey on August 7, 1996. Sandra loved her boys and was immensely proud of the men they have become.
Sandra was diagnosed with Colon/Liver cancer in February of 2019 and fought it like a true warrior for almost 2 years. Sandra’s family and close friends said their final goodbyes to her on November 2, 2020.
Sandra leaves in her wake a lifetime full of family and friends including, her husband Darren, sons Reese and Devin, father Cort Strobel, and sister Julie (John Dodge). Sandra also had a few special people in her life “daughter” nieces in Jackie Fischer and Shelby Schmidt and sister Marcie Halvorson.
Sandra was preceded in death by her mother Barbara and her brother Jim.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 6, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Mountain View Cemetery, with a gathering of family, friends, food and memories to follow at the family home on Upper Deer Creek.
The family would like to suggest memorials be made to either Hearts and Hands Hospice or the Sweet Grass Cancer Alliance.
