Obituary for Selma Juanita Gibby
Selma Juanita (Mosness) Gibby, 89, passed away at home on March 15, 2022.
She was born at home near the Mosness family homestead on June 25, 1932, to Ole and Edith Mosness. Selma was one of 15 children and lived within 30 miles of the homestead her entire life.
Selma graduated from Sweet Grass County High School and married the love of her life, Forrest Gibby, in 1950. They were married for 69 years and raised their sons – Brit, Rick, and Vic.
Forrest and Selma lived in a house he built in Springdale for eight years. At Christmas of 1963, the family moved to the Mosness homestead where they lived until moving into Big Timber in 2016.
Selma helped on the ranch, raised the boys, led 4-H, worked at Ward’s, and otherwise kept the family running. In the early 1980s, she started working for her brother Arnold at the Frosty Freez. Selma loved waiting tables, meeting new people, keeping up with friends and neighbors, and dishing the BS back to the coffee drinkers. She claimed a lot of the Frosty Freez employees and customers as family, especially Jay Deen and Kitty and their families. In later years, Selma and Forrest enjoyed going to the Hospitality House to play cards, socialize and dance.
Selma was very proud of her boys and their wives – Brit and Jeanine, Rick and Dianne, and Victor and Mardi. Then along came the grandchildren, who she may have spoiled a little – Dawn (Greg), Jeff (Afia), Season (Ian), Dylan (Shomie), Tasha, and Kathy (Joe). Finally, the greatgrandchildren, who could do no wrong – Sam, Ethan, Isabel, Austin, Rhian, Mat, Gabby, Mason, and Cooper. Selma loved us all and couldn’t resist cooking, baking, and feeding everyone she knew.
Selma was preceded in death by Forrest, Victor, and her parents and siblings.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Selma’s name may be made to the Hospitality House, PO Box 298, Big Timber MT 59011 or the Hearts and Hands Hospice, PO Box 1337, Big Timber MT 59011, or a charity of one’s choice.
Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday April 2, 2022, at the Sweet Grass County Fairgrounds in the Ag Pavilion followed by coffee and cookies. Inurnment at 4:00 p.m. at the Mountain View Cemetery.
