Artist and master craftsman, Terry Robert Baird passed away September 19th, after a brief battle with glioblastoma.
Terry was born to Vivian (Martin) and John Baird on February 28th, 1954, in Danville, IL. He spent his younger years in Pence, IN where he enjoyed working on his uncle’s farm and playing with his many cousins. He graduated high school in Chaska, MN in 1972. In high school Terry excelled at basketball and developed a love for woodworking. Terry came to Montana after high school when he attended Montana State University in Bozeman. While his plans of being a history major fell to the wayside his passion for history was apparent in his appreciation and preservation of history in his craft.
While working in the Boulder Valley, Terry met Jill (Yost) at the City Club Bar in Big Timber; they were wed in the summer of 1976. They soon moved to Casper, WY where he began his construction career. Terry built a successful business that lasted for 44 years until his retirement. T Baird construction specialized in custom log homes and renovations which were featured in several publications and television shows.
Terry enjoyed an active outdoor lifestyle that included big game guiding, snowmobiling, mountain biking, and hiking. Terry was a man of strong conviction, believed in being prepared for any eventuality and always having the right tool(s) for the job. He will be missed.
He is survived by his wife Jill, children Kerri and Fritz, granddaughter Hazel, and his brother Dave.
Services will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in Big Timber at 2:30 pm on October 14th followed by a celebration of life at the Baird residence, 359 Highway 191.
