Obituary for Theodore 'Ted' Swen Thompson
Ted Thompson, 61, of Big Timber died Sunday January 21, 2018 at his home.
Ted was born May 1, 1956 to Carl and Elnes Thompson in Harlowton, he was the fourth of five boys raised by Carl and Elnes.
Ted attended grade school in Melville and Big Timber and graduated
from Sweet Grass County High School in 1974. After high school, Ted continued his education at Montana State University in Bozeman.
As a youth, Ted participated in many activities including 4-H. The
highlight for Ted occurred when his market steer was selected Grand Champion of the Sweet Grass County Fair.
Ted's working career included a variety of positions. He worked on farms and ranches in the Melville area. He became proficient at stacking hay in his younger days and worked a number of summers in the hayfields.
Ted worked other jobs including highway construction, surveying assistant, and book seller.
Ted worked for the City of Big Timber in the maintenance department as well. He served as a clerk with the Post Office for several years in Big Timber from which he retired. His last job was as a night attendant with the River Valley Inn in Big Timber.
Ted was a life-long member of the Melville Lutheran Church. He enjoyed singing in the choir and he served as an officer of the church.
Ted was a passionate sports enthusiast. He was a lifetime fan and supporter of the Sheepherders and the Bobcats.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Elnes and Carl, and by his brother Ron.
He is survived by his brothers Gary Thompson of Roberts, Floyd Thompson of Laurel, and Roger (Sherry) Thompson of Loveland, Colorado;
also sister-in-law Theresa Thompson of Luther, as well as many cousins
in the United states and Denmark, five nieces and a nephew, and several grand nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday January 27 at the Melville Lutheran Church. Inurnment will follow at the Melville Cemetery. Memorials in Ted’s name may be made to the Melville Lutheran Church or a charity of one’s choice.
