Obituary for WINIFRED ANDREW DEWEY
Winifred Andrew Dewey loved going to the theater, listening to music, playing bridge and golf, spending time with friends and family, traveling the world, and most especially, reading books. She passed away peacefully at the Pioneer Medical Center on October 5, 2014, having enjoyed these, and the countless other joys of life for more than 103 years. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio on May 18, 1911 to Fred and Nancy Andrew, she moved to New York City as a child, where she grew up. She attended Wellesley College and received degrees from Northwestern University (BA) and Wright State University (MEd). On June 17, 1939, she married John P. Dewey and moved back to Ohio. They lived in Leesburg and later in Centerville until his death in 1970. She taught French at Centerville High School until she retired in 1971 and traveled to France numerous times. After retirement, she traveled extensively, visiting every continent except Antarctica. She was also an active volunteer and was particularly proud of her service to the Washington-Centerville Public Library where she was a Board member for 16 years. When she moved to Montana in 1998 to be closer to family, she took on the responsibility of organizing the library at Westpark Village, where she lived, and there was always a pile of books by her bedside. She moved to Big Timber about two years ago where she first lived at Boulder Meadows Assisted Living and then at Pioneer Medical Center Long Term Care. She is survived by her daughters, Diane Ronneberg and her husband, John, of Big Timber, MT; Lynn Trimby and her husband, Ross, of Wayland, MA; three grandchildren, Cindy (Ned) Zimmerman, Craig (Melissa) Anderson and Jonathan (Fiona)Trimby; and four great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to the Washington-Centerville Public Library, 111 West Spring Valley Pike, Centerville, OH 45458, Carnegie Public Library, PO Box 846, Big Timber, MT 59011, Pioneer Medical Center, PO Box 1228 Big Timber, MT 59011 or a charity of one's choice. Arrangements by Stenberg Funeral Home.
