Obituary for Kenneth Raymond Schott
Kenneth Raymond Schott, 75, of Big Timber passed away Wednesday January 8, 2020 at his home.
Kenny was born in McLaughlin, South Dakota on May 10, 1944 to Christ and Pauline Schott. He was the youngest of the six brothers, with two younger sisters. The family moved to Greycliff, Montana in the fall of 1946 where they all worked on the family farm.
Kenny went to grade school in Greycliff and graduated from Sweet Grass County High School in Big Timber in 1963. After school he continued to work on the family farm and at the Creamery. Kenny married Linda Beck on September 4, 1971 at the Big Timber Lutheran Church. They had daughter Melanie and twin sons, Kevin and Stephen.
Kenny began working at the Sweet Grass County Road Department in 1970. He loved driving his grader. He maintained the county roads for almost 37 years before retiring in 2007.
Throughout the years, Kenny and Linda (and the kids) also maintained quite a few of the beautiful lawns in town, often working well after dark. After his retirement from the county, he and Linda continued the lawn business. Kenny also continued the business after Linda’s passing in 2011, with the help of two grandsons, Kevin and Dustin. Kenny finally gave up the lawn business a couple of years ago, but continued to take Kevin and Dustin to and from school and their sports practices and games, even the away games. He enjoyed visiting with his granddaughter on the phone and visiting them in Houston and Casper.
It was a great blessing to spend time with him. It was also wonderful that he got to spend his last Christmas in Wyoming with his granddaughter Genevieve, daughter Melanie and her husband Ben.
Thank you to Jeanette, Carl and Earl for helping with his clinic runs. He always loved going to breakfast afterwards! He also loved going to Billings with Earl on Cattle Sale days and getting to help feed the cows with Earl.
Kenny was a kind man who loved to talk about his childhood and his years grading roads. He was generous and would help anyway he could. He took great pride in his work and everything he did, not taking any shortcuts and expected everyone to pull their own weight. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. May he finally, truly be at peace in eternity with Linda.
He’d agree with this saying, “Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.”

He is survived by his sister Jeanette (Carl) Ronneberg, brother Earl, daughter Melanie (Ben) Smith, sons; Kevin (Stacy) and Stephen, grandchildren; Kevin, Dustin and Genevieve, sisters-in-law; Ardyth, Ann and Carol Schott and Margo Stutterheim. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nephews and nieces and cousins.
