Obituary for Randy Lee Bunton
Randy Lee Bunton passed away June 17th surrounded by his loving family. Randy was born March 21, 1947 in Berkeley, California. He grew up on the racetrack with his parents and brother and that began a lifelong love of building, restoring, and racing cars. In high school he excelled in football, cross country, basketball, swimming, skiing, and baseball and graduated in 1966. He could be found surfing, flying kites, playing pool, golfing, bowing, or more often than not, back on the racetrack. Randy joined the Army in 1967. He served our country as an electrician, expert marksman, fixed-plant carrier supervisor, explosives and demolitions expert, and communications supervisor. His military time outside of California was split between Germany and Korea. Once discharged he studied to be a machinist and that began a 49-year career. At one point, he was commissioned to balance the props on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Kennedy. He made parts for the machines in the movie Robocop; he programmed and machined parts for bicycles, race cars, medical equipment, guns, motorcycles, windmills, guitars and projects that no one else could figure out. Randy loved Montana and visited often. He married his love, Dianne, at Natural Bridge and decided to someday make Sweet Grass County his home. In 1992 he moved his family, his thriving business, and his employees to Big Timber where he operated Bunton Precision Machine. He was a generous man and teacher for many. He loved God, his family, and his community and was always up for a cup of coffee, a conversation, or a motorcycle ride. To say he will be missed is a massive understatement. He was the type of man that was disciplined in good values, hard work, and love of family. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Dianne and three daughters, Tamara Fossum, Alexis Knadler, and Courtney Alford, their husbands and loved children. He has one brother, two step-brothers and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Randy’s life will be held later in July. Mints will be served.
