Obituary for Anna Elizabeth Thompson Pudwill
Anna passed away Friday May 17, 2019 at the Pioneer Medical Center in Big Timber.
Anna was born February 25, 1925 to Sven Torjusen Thompson and Ellen Asbjorndatter Skretting at the family ranch east of Big Timber.
Anna grew up on the ranch taking care of the animals, she would tell how she could milk a cow faster than most adults when she was 8 years old. She would trade jobs with her brothers and sisters so that she could be out taking care of the animals.
Anna lived her life according to Proverbs 3:5,6 – (5)Trust in the Lord with all thy heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. (6)In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and he shall direct my paths.
In 1943 after graduating from Sweet Grass County High School that path led her to the Fairview School of Nursing in Minneapolis under the Nurse Cadet Corp program. After graduating in 1946 she was working in a hospital there and while having lunch her path led to surgery when she was sent to assist with a surgery leading her to anesthesia school.
On June 11, 1955 she married Lorn Pudwill in Big Timber and again her path led her back to Minneapolis when she received a call from a doctor to come back to work there. In 1963 they returned to Big Timber to take care of her mother and remained here. She worked as an anesthesiologist in Columbus, Harlowton and Big Timber and she received the nickname “Roadrunner”.
Lorn and Anna had no children of their own, but had many children by becoming involved in youth programs such as being the camp nurse for the girl scouts, keeping in touch with the numerous babies she had assisted with the birth of and teaching Sunday School. She always had lollipops for the kids at church.
Anna lived life to the fullest, saying “It doesn’t matter how long you live, it’s how well you live.” She was always the caregiver, even worrying about why she had had such a good life and others didn’t.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lorn, brothers; Theodore, Allen, Amos and Kenneth and her sister Solveig. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
