There are condolences waiting approval on JOHN's Tribute wall

Plant a tree in memory of JOHN

An environmentally friendly option
Early on the morning of August 10, 2015 our Papa John left us. We'd like to think it was to make it to coffee on time because there was a lot of visiting to be done. He was always one to do things on his own time in life, so it only seems fitting that his death would be the same way. John Robert Hall was born to Rodney Frank and Loretta Tina (Hopson) Hall November 2nd 1951 in Portland, OR. He was the youngest of three sons. Our grandmother had her hands full with those boys. John met the Love of his life, Charlotte Woods September 14, 1970 and after two years they were wed on December 31, 1972. They were blessed with three children Frederick John, Ryan Lee, and Jennifer Alicia. John moved Charlotte, kicking and screaming, to Harlowton, MT from Oregon in March of 1985 where they started Hall's Welding and eventually came to call Harlowton their home. John was a talented welder and fabricator. For 15 years John built, fixed, jimmy rigged, and destroyed whatever was brought before him. His shop became a gathering place for locals to sit and have a cup of coffee and a good round of B.S., and there was a lot of B.S. John was always mischievous. He was a prankster always looking for a laugh. His welding shop gave him an outlet for that. He and his best friend Tom were always up to something. They made a lot of good memories, and even better stories. In 2000, he shut up his shop for good and started traveling, working for various companies building Bulk Storage Tanks. He was lucky to have been able to work with both of his sons on the road at various times while he was away. They all loved the work they did, and made the best of being away from home. His wife, Charlotte, kept the home fires burning and joined him when she could. In 2010, his Daughter Jennifer moved home to Harlowton and purchased a coffee shop. Whenever he was home, he was there, fixing something, telling them what to do, or just sharing a cup of coffee and some stories with whoever happened to walk in. John never knew a stranger; we always said he would talk to a post if you painted a face on it. He would correct us and say you didn't even need the face. He enjoyed spending time with his Grandchildren, and though they called him "Grumpy Grandpa", he meant the world to them. His favorite pastime was gathering with his family and friends and enjoying each other's company. One thing he instilled in all of us was that family was not just blood. He was lucky, because he amassed a huge family away from family in Harlowton. John leaves a hole in our hearts with his passing, he touched so many, because he gave and never asked for anything in return. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Charlotte, sons Frederick and Ryan, daughter Jennifer, grandchildren: Jonathon, Charlie, and Laura and his brother Allen and the numerous kids he "adopted" over the years. John was preceded in death by his father Rodney, mother Loretta, brother Gayle, and grandson Cody Ryan. Services for John were held Sunday August 16 at Deer Park in Harlowton.
